I found this when digging in an old dump next to the railroad tracks it was on a cross piece from a telegraph pole with some kind of nail or screw with a brass groment holding it to what was left of the wood there was several but this was the only one not broke it is 3 inches high 1- 3/4 across has one hole for atachment inside is a recess part that was full of rotten wood it is a green white glass marbleized style i have been told it was an old car ashtray but i dont belive it is as i have worked in a junk yard for 50 plus years and salvaged alot of cars and trucks and never saw anything even close but we did find it on a crossover from an old pole that was what i was told was an old lumber mill has anybody got a clue as to what it really is and an approxamate age thanks I dont know but sure would like to know for sure
Someone else has one of these posted in their glass collection, & they said it was an ashtray from an old car.

very good information sure had me fooled as someone nailed it to the post and had wire hanging on it i have not seen one ever and nobody in upstate ny has thats what had us fooled thanks everybody at least we know what it is probally not worth much as we thought

It might be worth a few bucks to the right car collector.

I still have the flat spot on my head from the wall banging it took researching this one as an insulator....
