Exquisite 19th century gilded Seth Thomas mantle clock, possibly 8000 series but not sure. Would appreciate any info. Beautiful hand-painted, floral porcelain face with no cracks or chips, encased in a round beveled glass bezel. The gilding, over heavy cast metal, is in excellent condition. The mechanism, a near-silent 8-day movement, performs flawlessly. The clock strikes a deep resounding tone on the hour and half hour. This clock rung in the New Year 2013 at our house! If anyone can shed any light on the this particular model, we would sure appreciate it!

Seth Thomas offered "Sets" of these type of metal mantel clocks paired with ornate candelabras. The clock and candelabras were cataloged separately as well. This clock is from the "Orleans Set" circa 1908...not to be confused with the Seth Thomas wood cased "New Orleans" City Clock.

The original price of the clock was $23, the candelabras were $19.50 per pair and the set was $42.50. 8-day, Hour and half-hour strike on "cathedral bell" (or gong). 4-inch decorated porcelain dial. Came in rich gold highly burnished and gold antique bronze finishes.

Doesn't appear to come up for auction very often. Appraised by Tran Duy Ly in 2005 at $550 (mint, original and working condition).

      Hope that helps.

Thank you for your insight regarding this clock. I have scoured various Seth Thomas sites and blogs but have had nothing of any substance before your kind assistance. Are the candle holders identical in pattern to the clock? I would imagine if orphaned, they would show up for sale as anonymous candle holders? It is a lovely and reliable clock nevertheless. Exceptionally clean and has a definite but very soft operation. Do you have a reference where I can find more information on this model?
Thank you again for your help.

      Hi Thomas,

You're very welcome. The candelabras are very unique and beyond my ability to describe so I've e-mailed an image file from my Juno account. If you don't get it, check your spam folder. If it's not there. Let me know.

      Regards,

      Bruce
