Scored this cute little children's desk today. A little wooden desk with an attached seat and a sliding board that opens to a desk with a peg board area. One side of the sliding board is a green chalk board and the other side side is a white dry erase or crayon board.
Above the desk area is a window panel with a scrolling paper that has different educational sections. There is: How to draw a duck, multiplication tables, the alphabet and a couple really great retro illustrations.
Sealed in a ziploc bag was a bag of pegs and the chalkboard eraser. It states on the scroll that it is made by the "Deluxe Game Corp of Kingston, PA"
I would love to find a scrolling paper in better condition to replace mine if possible. I can't seem to find another one like this.
I'm sure you have figured this out, but this piece was designed for a child to use at home, not school. When I first saw it, I had a jolt of recognition, because I had a similar piece when I was a child in the '50s. But mine was more modern looking, and had some other differences. The chief similarity was the blackboard and pegboard features. Your is awesome, and I'd guess comes from the 1930s or maybe '40s.
I have a similar era standing easel chalkboard with the scrolling paper, and mine is also in poor shape. It would be great to have a replacement, wouldn't it?
Many years ago, I worked at DeLuxe Game. This item brings back memories!
Yes, it will be hard finding a replacement scroll, but if I come across one, I'll let you know!
I love it!!!!!
