This lapel watch is made by US Time in the early 50's. The fob is not original to the watch but I thought it goes nicely with it, Hope you enjoy!

      Hi,
I've been trying to find infomation about a companion to this, a Mickey Mouse lapel watch in the same style. Not the 1930s version with the Mickey Mouse sticker on the back, but one like the Hopalong Cassidy with the wide bezel and plain back. The Mickey Mouse image is consistant with what was used by U.S. Time/Ingraham in the 1950s and I believe was made by them. I only have a 2002 version of the Complete Price Guide to Watches, but it suggests both the Hopalong and Mickey watches are fabrications. i think they are genuine, and I've also found the Hopalong in a couple of my reference books, as well as a Hakes auction... any thoughts?

Hi dhhirsch, the watch referred to in the Complete Price Guide to Watches is an Ingersoll and I am not aware that the watch company have made any lapel Mickey Mouse watches since the 30s. Hence most likely a fantasy piece put together by someone.

The Hopalong Cassidy lapel watch however has appeared in many reference books and indeed, the Hakes, auction, hence most likely genuine.

      Hi geo26e,

My understanding is U.S. Time made the Hopalong watches. U.S. Time was a successor to Ingersoll and used the Ingersoll name on Mickey Mouse watches from the later 40s into the 1050s. Here's a good link about them
      http://www.mickeymousewatches.co.uk/USTime_List.html

So, both were made by the same company and used the same case...

whoops, meant 1950s... I always seem to make typos...

Hi dhhirsch, Ingersoll did became US Times, which became Timex. I could be wrong but my understanding is that Ingersoll stopped signing their name on the dial from the year 1950 onwards. Any watches post 1950 shouldn't have Ingersoll on the dial.

I hope you can still hear me eight years later

      H igeo26e,
You might be right, but I have a several of Mickey Mouse watches that are supposedly from 1955 and 1958 according to the reference books and they all have Ingersoll on them. One is the Mickey Mouse in the "pop-up", Mouseketeers box. Another is the 1958 watch with the figurine of Mickey (it even has the $7.95 price tag, which may date it a bit later than 1958...).
If interested, my email address is dhhirsch@hotmail.com Contact me and I can send pictures... I do love a mystery! Fun stuff!!!

      Hi Vynil33rpm

I guess even though its 8 years old, we can still interact on this posting...

Hi dhhirsch, you are absolute correct. The watches you referred to were reissued in 1952 with a stand-up paper Mickey & in 1958 packaged in a porcelain or plastic statue respectively. I suspect they were using left over Ingersoll dials and adding more premium packaging in order to attract more buyers. The original 1950 version only came in a flat box.

I had hoped to find an ad from the 1950s that had the Hopalong and Mickey wide bezel lapel watches as a way to confirm that they were legitimate. I wonder if the dials and movements are similar, or if serial numbers are close? It just seems to me that U.S. Time might have made the Mickey Mouse wide bezel lapel watch since the cases match and they used the same dials on other watches of that period. Maybe both are scarce because lapel watches weren't popular in the 50s anymore. I'd love to find a way to corroborate my belief that the Mickey is legit...

Apparently my first comment didn’t stick....
The Lapel Mickey is 1930’s variants...... the one mentioned above (1950’s) is a fantasy piece, never produced.
The “Ingersoll “ logo on the dial was last used in early 1968 Mickey watches, note that 1968 is first year that Mickey has returned to the dial after “Name” only variant from 1960-67

Thanks very much Kerry for your input! As you have the full collection, do you know how many different versions were produce by US Time between 1950 - 1968 that were signed Ingersoll.

Thanks Kerry, Oh well, I paid very little for it and it actually runs. I do have one of the 1930s lapel watches with the decal on the back. Thanks for chiming in and providing your expertise... much appreciated.
