Found this on eBay some time ago. In the ad, the person claimed to have purchased this at an estate sale of a former US Senator. I know it is an antique writing desk but was hoping to learn more about who the original owner might be. The top is engraved with "Presented to Inspector Parsons By Members of the D DIVN CC Sept 17th 1885".
Possibly might be William Barclay Parsons, considering the provenance of being owned by a Senator, it's a good place to start. This link has some info on him.

taylor19k, As the title of this old post suggests, it's a antique portable writing desk.
