According to our research, this is a late 19th century French bronze statue by Berthoz called Jeanne d'Arc au Combat (see the name plate). There is another seal on the statue that certifies that it was made in France. It appears to be complete with no damage including the sword and flagstaff. She really is beautiful and Berthoz has captured the essence of this mighty female warrior. The detail is marvelous - clean and sharp. Other than that we don't know much about her. We would really like to find some information on Berthoz and who he was as we have not been successful in finding out more than the value that these statues have sold for in the recent past. We cannot find anything like a number on her to indicate how many castings were made of this figure. There does not seem to be much of a category for this sort of thing either.....

However, it is very well done and in excellent condition so I am quite pleased with it anyway. Do you have any info on the creator Berthoz? Who was he and what else did he do? love what j d arc stood for and keeping this alife even by spelters is allowed if you ask me, but i ejoyed phildavids lesson in bronzes cheers for that and thanks for sharing!!!
I have an identical statue which has been in the family since the twenties or thirties of the past century. It is in spelter on a marbleized wooden plinth. It is exceptionally fine for spelter and details are stunning. I am glad that I learned something about it through this site because I couldn't find knowledge in the many references I have.
