I am not sure what this steam gauge was originally intended for-- maybe the 250 top setting will shed some light on the subject.

Produced by the "American Steam Gauge Company" out of Boston and in its original box with fittings. What made it of interest to me is the additional dial lettering: "STEREOPTICAN AND FILM EXCHANGE" out of Chicago!

Kind of an odd ancillary photo related item!

The gauge itself is very heavy weight with a large piece of beveled glass over the dial. The fact that it is chrome vs. brass would suggest to me that it is 20th century.

This company did make railroad steam locomotive gauges, but I don't believe that is what this was made for-- you RR folks would know!

Any information on this is appreciated.

Scott ... you're right ... this is interesting with the 'stereopticon' marking. Then again it is a great item with the original wooden box. I did some quick Googling and there's lots of reference material on the Chicago company. - Rob
