i found out that this is a ming-style wedding jar with the double-happiness symbol. but it is an odd shape. it was found in a very beautiful, old home where an old asian couple lived for many years. i wonder how old it is? it seems to have had a lid which fit inside it.

I have double happiness ginger jar, have never seen it in this shape.

hi nldionne. i agree that it's not a ginger jar, but i think that the symbols indicate that it is a wedding piece of some kind. by the looks of where the unglazed portion is [1/2" inside top portion] as well as the odd cut at the top, i thik there was an insert, w/ possibly a lip which dropped down on the outside. who knows? i think it's old though.
