This was given to my Father many years ago by a family friend. Does anyone have any idea how old it might be or where it could of come from.

I would sat it is a shepherd's crook but they are normally 5 1/2' - 7' long. It could be a cane or walking stick as it is only as tall as the door knob.

This is very nice. What kind of wood is it? Judging from the grain pattern the top looks to have been steamed and bent into that shape. The twist was carved into it. Very nicely done. I love it!

I've seen U tube videos of people making canes and shepherd's crooks in England like this. It was short enough to be a cane but not knowing if that was its original length. I didn't want to commit to one or the other.
AR8Jason ...... It is a very nice piece. A lot of work went into it to follow the grain with the draw shave and steam bend it. So as not to allow the grain of the wood to splinter when bent. I'd like it in my collection.
