I think it is called an Irish Mail. . . powered by the lever action and steered by the "pedals".
I think I had one of these when I was little back in the early 1950's . My parents called it a sidewalk bike . Mine was also red in color . That is about all I remember about it except one of my brothers was mad at me because I would not let him ride it so he went in the house and got one of my dolls and broke it .
LOL Nancy, my older brother did the same kind of things to me!
It is indeed an Irish Mail, however it has been modified. This particular model did not come with that tractor seat or fenders. It had a square padded seat in yellow and the main body was red. I turn 60 this year and still have my Irish Mail from the mid fifities....my kids played with it and now it's my grandkids turn.
Thank you John, I assumed it was original.
John, lucky or smart you for still having the a toy from your childhood. I had younger siblings and nieces and nephews, so everything was shot by the time it went through all of them.
MaRS- I have several items from my youth. A Smith Miller Silver Streak Truck, Large Marx Car...even a Steiff Panda Bear that I have pictures of at age 4. And what I have lost over the years have been replace via Ebay.....Don't know why or the reason....just something I enjoy doing.
I also have an original Irish Mail from the Chicago Irish Mail Company with the yellow seat. Its from the early 1950s. I am considering selling if anyone has any interest. Feel free to contact me at Ladykc4@hotmail.com.
Yeah, I know, you're expecting me to do the police work............not gonna happen unless the site wants it done......if that's how they want the site to go then it's gone ...
It is an Irish Mail - we had one in the 60's you pumped the handle back and forth to accelerate and steered with your feet - ours had a yellow cushioned seat. It was great fun.
