My first attraction to this cabinet card was the beautiful girl; however, most of its value and collectibility lies in the fact that it is a photographers advertising piece.
The front shows the skill at which the photographers can take a likeness of children. The back of the card sings the praises of the Arthur & Philbric studio out of Detroit: "This photograph was made by the Instantaneous Process... whereby the best results are obtained", "We invite inspection and comparison", "A call at our Studio will convince you."
If you look closely you can see an "A & P" carved into the picket fence for the photographers studio!

According to the research I see, Philbric's name is listed in directories spelled Philbrick. I found: "Arthur & Philbrick, artistic photographers, 204 and 206 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI and Toledo Branch, 159 Summit St., Toledo, OH (1890s)". Grand Rapids is also a small city just outside of Toledo; I wonder if it was Grand Rapids, Ohio or Michigan? Great Item and wonderful smile!
Thanks for looking jamey. They certainly got a cute kid for the photo!
I would think the "k" was an assumption in the city directories.
