Hi everyone, I don't know much about jewelry, but I found this today for a few dollars. Looks like silver but not sure. Does anyone know what this is or where it is from? Pretty nice looking.

925 is mark for sterling silver . It is beautiful Hard to tell about the turquoise but there are experts on here that may know . It appears native American to me . Very good buy !
Hi Manikin, I was thinking the same thing...native american, the marking is not 925 it is either 930 or 950.

This is a Mexican piece made to immitate Native American Zuni petitpoint. I say that based upon the fact that its .950, which is common to Mexican silver and unheard of for Native American, and the florets on top of the settings, which are a dead giveaway for Mexican jewelry. It is probably from the early 40's or late 30's, given that the national eagle stamp is not present. The turquoise are most likely glass beads, but that doesn't really impact it a WHOLE lot
You'd be forgiven for thinking that it was Native American, the Mexican smiths "took inspiration" from the Zuni here. Sweet little piece BHock
thanks stillwater, Mexican makes sense to me. I do not know anything about jewelry, since I am male I don't really have any reason to keep this. I don't usually ask this question, does it have any value? Or should I just hold onto it. I think it cost me 7 dollars.
It doesn't have tremendous value, if I had that I'd put it on the 'bay for $25.
My mother has a passion for jewelry that she passed to me. I'm a male too actually, I know its weird but I'm obsessed with jewelry. I think you become interested in a certain area when you make a lot of money in it.

the good news, stillwater, is that I found a thrift store pretty close to my home. It is where I found this pin, and there were many other items that I thought were sterling by first glance. I am so used to stores having nothing but junk, maybe this one isn't "filtered" like the other stores around here.
But I am happy that I was able to pick this one out of the lineup and be right about it being sterling...or 950. It means I am getting better....slowly but surely. Also, I am getting the hang of the acid testing like you said I was. I learned that I have to scratch down pretty deep, and that a red to brownish red is the color I am looking for. Thanks again for helping me with all of this. I have a gold testing kit on the way!
