One of my favourite pink rings. Bought in Brasil, Rio de Janeiro in a jewelry shop on the top of the "Sugarloaf". This name was coined in the 16th century by the Portuguese during the heyday of sugar cane trade in Brazil. According to historian Vieira Fazenda, blocks of sugar were placed in conical molds made of clay to be transported on ships. The shape given by these molds was similar to the peak, hence the name.
This beautiful opal surrounded by six round brilliants and marked 18K (see photo) and maker's marks AB or AS.
As tourists we enjoyed this trip a lot of years ago. For several years it was a good habit to buy a typical national jewelry . Naturally adapted to the available budget and a benevolent husband. So this ring was one of this kind of results.
I like the bright changing colors of the opal by light. Dont't you?
Absolutely beautiful!
