The case serial number is 7253190 the wording on case cover is " nawco in the middle of a state outline then under it, it says security 10 karat gold filled railroad model. the movement says "Crescent St. Waltham Mass." serial number 13048686 The movement doesn't fit snug it moves around when the watch is handled. that's why I don't believe it's the right case for the movement. Any help would be seriously appreciated.
It is the correct case with a very nice pendant below the crown. The reason it moves is because one of the case screws are loose. These are half-head screws and have to be turned so that the head holds tight to the rim of the case. I don't see any ghost screw head marks, which leads me to believe that this movement is original to the case.
A little more information for you. It is a size 16s. Model "99" c. 1914. It is missing its bow. The case is very nice. It is a highly collectable Railroad grade pocket watch.
Thank you so much every time I put the back on and screw on the case cover the movement stops. any ideas? Could it be because the other case screw isn't turned right. I got the watch for $177 I think I got a really good deal. So I really really want to get this watch working the way it should. Any help would be so appreciated and THANKS for the help so far.
One more thing pocket watch database dates this watch at 1903 and the ebay add I bought it from dated it at 1904 the movement serial number is 13048686 THANKS again!
You are right, it is 1904 according to the NAWCC data base sorry for the typo. As to the problem watch stopping, the case back is hitting the balance cock. Hold the back cover flat in your hand (outside up) and look across it. There should be a slight curve or a "belly up". Thare may also be a circular scratch inside the back cover, which is an indication that the balance is hitting the inside of the back cover as it is closed. A good watchmaker can put the belly back in the cover with a dapping block. Make sure the screws are secure before you put the back on. Good luck!
Thank you for your help!! Can you tell me how to find a trust worthy watchmaker. I do not have alot of money, it took along time to save up for this watch. I do not want to trust it to just anyone. Is there any thing to look for or ask for when going to someone that says their a watchmaker. So I will know they know what their doing. Thanks again, I really appreciate your time and wisdom.
Don't take it to a jewelry store because they will send it to a watchmaker and charge you 2 to 3 times what the watchmaker would charge them. They are both very simple fixes. Try looking for an old time watchmaker in your yellow pages or contact the NAWCC web site and they might recommend someone in your area. Good luck.
