This is an early Civil War era carte de visite (CDV) that depicts a woman sharing a CDV in an album. The CDV is a woman and man together-- possibly an earlier shot of this same woman?
This type of posed subject is considered to be a mourning view by collectors.
The woman's dropped lipped expression further portrays sadness in this image.
