I would like to see the "Mounting" bracket on the back. Thinking more along the lines of early vechicle lamp. late 1890's-19 teens

I did add a couple more pictures, the reason I believe it to be a rail road lantern is because it has one small red lens and one small green lens on opposite sides. Thanks so much for the input!

The red and greens could be found on earlier bicycle lamps along with boat lamps. With the "Northstar" logo on the back, I'm going with a boat lamp, it's not railroad piece. I sure on the approx date. Again thanks for sharing this, I'll try to find it in one of my old catalogs and get back with you.

It looks like it's an kerosene fueled bicycle head lamp c1900. Is there a makers name anywhere?

The only markings I can find is north star, I don't pick it up very often just as I am scared to break it, so if there is some where specific I should look let me know. Thanks

This link (Worthpoint) will confirm that what I thought was correct.
