    Its from 1940 , man overboard lite, chemicaly activated flare, used during ww1 ww11 . copper,ihave 4 of them.

      Your Marine Torch was patented by William Rose & James Watson from Washington D.C. on Sept 29, 1903. The patent was assigned to Marine Torch Company of Baltimore, MD. Another patent issued for improvement on the marine Torch was issued to Alexander F Johnson on Aug 4th 1925 in also was assigned to the Marine Torch Company.

      When the Marine Torch hits the water the gas would ignite the illumnating forming material. As old as it is, i would wonder if there's anything left inside.

      I would keep it away from water just in case, or remove the material inside.
