Found this Sputnik vase with green underlay recently. As I told before, it is not a Gunnar Nylund design. Asta Stromberg stands behind this model B 895 from late 1950s. Sputniks produced in different sizes up to 420 mm and with different underlay color. This one is 360 mm high (14 1/4") and has a green underlay, probably code x 74.
I like this long and narrow shape very much. It must be one of Asta Strombergs most successful designs. Inspired in form of the Russian space rockets, which shot up the first Sputnik satellites between 1957 - 1960. A perfect balance and harmonious rounded shape makes it beautiful to my eye. The oblong shape is driven (after blowing) completely manually, and the outcome depends entirely on the masterblowers artistic sense.
I agree rebessin it is a great form. Simply beautiful. Sexy!
Very beautiful.
Sputniks are just glorious! I wonder when will I be able to get one ;)
Thanks everybody! "Sexy", I think can be a well descriptive term.
