There is a second-hand store in my neighborhood which seems to specialize in shiny, plastic stuff and they can't stand the old stuff. So i am always finding great old stuff like this piece in their trash pile, of all places. I think this makes us a perfect match, don't you? This has all square nail and dovetail construction and it appears to be in it's original paint. There were locks on at least some of the drawers, but they've been patched over.

can anyone tell me when square nails were used? when do you think this dresser was made?

Lucky for you that they are so focused on plastic, a nice save from the dumpster.
As too the nail, square heads are circa 1810s-1900s.
Some people pay good money just to get that look reproduced in a new piece.
