This dresser is part of the bedroom set that includes the vanity I previously posted. To reitterate, I am trying to find out as much as I can about these furniture items, as I honestly don't know much except that they are a lot older than I am. Lol! But thanks to sincerity of those here on this site, I am learning a lot! And that means a lot to me as these items belonged to my great grandmother!
I would be grateful for any and all information I can get about the items I am posting!
Thank you sir! The old catalogs? I would have never guessed. And coincidentally there are still a couple of those old catalogs in some of the boxes out in the garage that probably would have gone to the recycle bin. Not anymore! I will dig them out and browse the pages thanks to you. Wow, this is getting more and more fascinating to me. Who knows what else this is going to lead to!
Hi I see Phil gave you a good idea to look for styles of bedroom sets as yours
What does the lighter color seem to be made of the shield in middle ?
Yes indeed. And soon after he did I happen to look under that stool and was able to "connect the dots" so to speak. I'm not sure about the shield but I will find out and follow up with you shortly. I'm curious myself. I still can't get over the details of the craftmanship of how these were made! I posting a couple more pics in just a second.
This is a wonderful piece, some things to look for to help determine age & quality, is the construction style & materials used. Look at the drawer construction, dovetail joints vs rabbeted joints, solid full width boards on the drawer bottoms.
Fixtures like the casters & drawer pulls all tell a tale. The carvings at the bottom, applied & machine carved, style of legs.
Some examination of the dresser & some research online & possibly your catalogues, should tell you a lot.
Enjoy the quest, you're in for a great learning experience.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
