This Christmas tree stand was made in Germany in the 1890's. It is in perfect working condition. The tree can turn and the stand plays two lovely Christmas songs. Unfortunately, my father painted the stand because it was in pretty bad shape. I remember it being silver coloured. Does anyone have an idea if it is worth restoring it, and if so, how to do it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for looking:)

When i was a kid we had one if these but unfortunately lost it through family dispute. It was silver and was an amazing feature. I hope you do get it restored and would be interested to hear how you got on.

Claire66, I am sorry to hear that you lost yours. I have so many nice memories sitting around the Christmas tree, watching it turn and listening to the two tunes. One day, I will have the time to have it restored to its former glory and it will be a true family heirloome.

would be interested in seeing it if you do get it restored. I have photos of me and my sisters sitting around the tree listening to it. does it have a key you turn in the top to wind it up, and a slide switch on the side to switc it on.

Yes, it does have a key. In the second photo you can see it in the background. The old key was worn out so my dad had a new one made. The old key was shorter and chubbier. There are two leavers on the side; one makes the tree turn and the other one is to play the two songs. It seems to be the same like yours. By the way, mine works great - but it doesn't look original anymore.

I have been looking on and off for years to see if i could find out a bit more about them. It's the first i've seen. from what i can remember my mum tellibg us, My grandad who died before i was born, brought our back from the war with him. Not sure of the history before that. But it is nice to see another one, even one in the condition yours is in.

Thanks, claire66. I believe the model I have goes back to the 1890's. There is a lot of history!

looking at the photo's and from what you have descibed believe it could be the same model my family had. Will have to look into it further. Thanks glad I googled it niw and found your post on here.
