This was a ring I bought many years ago....just about when I lost everything...and had to rebuild. I bought this from a dealer and she was selling her personal pieces. All I know is that she weighs 6.7 grams and is hallmarked with French Hallmarks outside of the ring. the ring size is a 6.5 and measures 28mm x 12 mm and the Opals are incredible ...my question is what is the Cameo painted on? HELP!
UPDATE: got the scoop on the ring from the original seller just now. She said that she bought this from an old Aristocratic Cuban Lady that was able to get the family jewelry out of Cuba before Castro's regime. She said 1700's to very early 1800's
Her husbands family originated in France, and I think owned a sugar plantation in Cuba. And that the centre stone is indeed original to the ring....WOW I never knew!!!
Hmmm...looks like a stone...quartz??...hard to tell from photo. Quartz is not the right stone...but a non precious one...looks familiar...pink jade...arghhh...can't think
AmberRose, you maybe right that it could be pink jade? Or what do you think of Ivory?
I don't think ivory, doesn't feel right. BUT, iam only looking at a photo. Porcelain?
I don't believe the insert with the painting is original to the ring, so it could be a more modern material, too.
I agree with davyd286, it doesn't make sense the painting is half covered with the rings setting.
this one is a beautiful -- always like to hit your postings to learn -- your right those opals are outstanding -- in regards to the center piece i would guess either bone or ivory or perhaps a stone -- had to tell on the pics
Coral or conch shell? Hmmm
AmberRose, I just got more info on the ring from the original seller..what a history this ring must have!!! I forgot to ask her about the centre stone..will ask her ...
davyd286, just got update on the ring...yes its original centre stone ...but still no idea as of yet about what it is?

sarahoff, I think it is....XOXO
Maybe look up French masquerade theme jewelry?
Totaly agree with sarahoff, it is a masquerade miniature enamel on porcelain or metal! Just strange that the prongs cover it...
kyratango, I believe this was painted on porcelain. Or ivory.... many thanks for loving!
