Here is an old clock by Waltham, in the Art Deco style. This is a wonderful piece, of which I am very proud!
This clock runs by electricity, and it works well, but I am considering replacing the cord, and also it's workings. Would this modification be a wise move authenthicity wise?
I hope that each you has had a fine Easter!
I couldn't say on these, but on my 33 electric Mickey, The cloth wrapped cord and bakelite plug is original and replacing it would knock the value by quite a bit.
Opps, very nice looking clock, thanks for sharing!!
Nice clock, Ted!
If the original cord is frayed/stiff/dangerous looking, then replacing with a comparable cord is an modification that typically won't affect collectability or value. Try to get as close to original appearance as possible. Can't see what your cord is, but if it's cloth wrapped, most hardware stores offer vintage looking rayon wrapped cord these days. There are also lots of online sources, and for vintage-look plastic plugs too. If original is rubber or vinyl, avoid the modern integrated cord sets - better to buy lamp cord and a vintage replacement plug. That said, unless my cords are pretty far gone, I tend to leave 'em alone.
Thank you, Bellin. It is truly a beauty, and I got it for only 8$ at a flea market!
Hi, Kerry, thanks for the love, and for the input...I appreciate both very much!
Thank you, Chadakoin. Your comment and love are very much appreciated. I'll evaluate the clock, and then I'll decide on keeping it as it is, or to have it restored. The cord does concern me, so at this point, I'll let the clock sit as a "conversation piece". We'll see about refurbishing it as a little time elapses...thanks again.
Yes, Bellin68, I have been pretty lucky in acquiring many of the items in my collection. It is part of the challenge to "get good stuff cheap"!...which I am sure that this sentiment is shared by all of us.
A difficulty in my area, Eastern PA, is that its proximity to the large cities of Philadelphia and New York affords easy access to people from those areas who have the money to burn. Unfortunately, of course, this often shuts the locals out re: auctions, and sometimes at sales.
Very nice clock Ted, thanks for sharing!!
Thank you, walksoftly!
Hi, ticktocktime100...thanks for the love!!!!
