For the longest time I thought that this was sterling and glass but when I checked the marking I was surprised to see a 10k mark inside the ring It also has a makers mark; the letters F and J, each in a diamond shape. I think that the stone might be real because I can't think of putting glass into a gold ring. But then again: You never know.
Thanks for looking:)
They have put glass into gold before..and a lot in the 1920s-50's It was common...and the glass are sometime irradiated. Very cool "))
Take it to a jeweler before you do anything such as sell it, find out what type of stone it is
The gemstone looks like either Topaz or from the quartz family. Or Spinel....
Thanks Moonstonelover21, Owijebo, as well as BELLIN68 and mustangtony. Your comments have been very helpful :)
I have a 14K gold ring from the 40s that has a huge ruby red glass stone in it. Glass or synthetic stones are not uncommon in gold rings of that period.
Thanks for your comment, davyd286. As you and Moonstonelover21 pointed out, my ring could have a glass stone. I never would have guessed that that is a possibility in a gold ring. I guess I have a lot to learn:)
Also many thanks for looking: AmberRose, Newtimes, vetraio50, and PhilDavidAlexanderMorris.
