    Hello fellow collectors.

This is a coin that has been in our family for many years. It is gold.

I would certainly like some informed opinions on this coin as to rarity and possible value.
Thanks to "Dizzydave", another collector here who has provided the following information, my questions were answered. Thanks Dave.

This coin will remain in the family no matter what.

    Here is a short description:

    Metal: Gold
    Year: 1865

Inscription around face: NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR

    Inscription behind: EMPIRE FRANCAIS

One wonders what the actual value really is. It's probably not a museum piece but to me it has value. Thanks for looking it up.

Hello, This 10 Franc gold piece has a actual gold content of .0933 ounces of pure gold. To get the value on any given day, just multiply the spot price of gold X .0933 and you have your value. The date is a common date but common does not mean there is a zillion of them out there. They were heavily used not only in France but around the world until the date could not be read and then were melted to be used again in whatever fashion. Most 10 Franc French gold is heavily worn, much more so than the 20 Franc or 40 Franc and higher. All of them were a whole lot of money back in the day but the "10's" were really used a lot more. If a month ago someone offered you $100 he was about $40-$50 U.S. off the mark. NEVER take the 1st persons word on what you have OR what it's worth. They will vary by a mile at times.

No problem. Hope it helped. I would not sell any gold or silver "anything" that you have at present. Silver even more so because while gold will do very well, silver will do better on a percentage basis. Good luck to you in all of your collections. You have some really cool stuff. Lots of neat model train items. Take care.

My apologies for the long delay, divorce will do that to a person. bahamaboy, no, I have no plans to sell anything. All of what I put up on this wonderful site was passed down in the family. Each piece has sentimental value, perhaps more then actual value. And I am glad to have experts here inform me on each item. Have a great day.

Your coin is a product of the Strasbourg mint and is a common date with a mintage figure of 1,576,000. Even in the very worn condition it is in it will always be worth it's weight in gold as bahamaboy said.
