A nice way to find out at least a little bit about stamp value, is to go to eBay and search in the USA stamp section called BOBs. (Back of the book). That's where you'll see most of your items on sale/auction (for example all of your sales tax items). Be aware that people state things like "High CV" (Catalog value) but this should be taken with a pinch of salt since the catalog values don't reflect how much a stamp is really worth from day to day. If you decide to sell your stamps on eBay (or any other type of general non-specialized auction site) you can figure on getting about 10-20% of the CV value.
