I just found out from another collector that this is not an intentional color shade designed by the post office as a "color proof", but is a result of the "red" stamp being exposed to sunlight for man...
A nice way to find out at least a little bit about stamp value, is to go to eBay and search in the USA stamp section called BOBs. (Back of the book). That's where you'll see most of your items on sale...
