We found these items in my grandmother's basement when we are cleaning out her house. Does anyone have any idea what they are. I'm thinking some sort of vintage kerosene lamp. Looks like brass. The handles at the top appeared to be a snake wound into a circle around itself with the head popping up. Thanks for your help. They really cool looking and I would love to know what they are.

Proof that there is always something to come along to stump me! Maybe one(or 2) of those incense burners that they swing in a church? Another sleepless nite wondering!

Those are old whale oil lamps. Probably around 1800 or earlier. They are adjustable in height. The things on the chains are used to extinguish the lights.
