This is one of my favourite Navajo Squash Blossoms! I got this many years ago. When I was into Native American pieces. This has some of the most spectacular Turquoise I have ever seen! The Squash Blossom measures 28 inches with a 2 inch drop. The plates range from the centre being 2.25 x 1.75 and the others are about 2 inches each descending...
This is a fabulous find and this necklace came from a lady who's father bought it for her mother in the 1930's. As an anniversary present from a local jeweler. This is made of coin silver and not hallmarked. I promised the lady that this would be with me forever.

Perhaps I am wrong - but I think that BHock45's comment meant that he was simply blown away by the incredible beauty of this piece of turquoise, as am I!! The stones are gorgeous.

antiquarius123, thank you for interpreting BHock45's comment:)) Thank you...LMAO I looked at the necklace and my daughter said mom you should wear the necklace...So I tried it on in front of her. Then she retracted her first comment and said "Uh maybe not...its too big for you" The necklace is HUGE!

Nice piece, it looks big. I sold a smaller one for a lot of money recently.

I think the person you bought it from embellished a bit or was mistaken, this is definitely from the 1960's-70's. Very, very classic of that time period, whenever you see those cut-out flowers, and this lavalier-pendant-style necklace started appearing around then too. Its not an old design.

Its not a squash blossom, those are the ones with the naja pendant and pomegranate blossoms down the sides. I've never heard of a specific term for this type of necklace, like a Navajo version of a lavalier maybe?

Stillwater, I was told that is was and the fact that this piece does not have a hallmark anywhere? BTW how much is necklace this worth? I have no idea.....if you can help that would be great! I am just a collector with Native American pieces...I collect what I see.Thank you for the loving and comment! Most helpful.

I see that reasoning everywhere on websites and forums too, that since its unmarked it has to be old, but I'll tell ya, at LEAST half of the contemporary Native American jewelry I come in contact with has no marking whatsoever, even large, substantial pieces. At LEAST half, maybe even 65% of it. The natives are very modest people, and they didn't even start to sign their work until the traders asked them to because the market favored signed pieces.

Anytime you see those cutout leaves, its from the 1960's-70's. NA jewelry was really popular then and they had to pump it out fast to keep up with demand, so they would buy bags of these little cutout leaves and shells and scrollwork because it enabled them to make elaborate "Indian-looking" pieces very quickly. Like this, this is your classic 1960's-70's piece:

I sold one that was half the size of yours in terms of the mountings for $275 a couple of months ago. The woman had been looking for something like it for a long time and she was really excited to find it, so I'm not sure if that number represented a fair market value or not.
