This is fake
Its real. Takes a real coke collector to tell the difference
Thank you ray.
First, you can tell it's fake because of the graphics, I think they would be in better in quality. Second, the style of script, and the placement of the "Trink" would date to the 50's, so I don't think it would be made of wood (at least I think it's made wood). Even if it's made of metal, it should be at least embossed in some way. Plus motordog, it takes a "real" coke collector to skip out on crap like that cause they know it's fake!
Hmmm, interesting comments. Ok, first if its a fake then there is a original that was being copied out there somewhere. As nobody can give details on a "real" one shoots down that theory. It is made of a acrylic material. (Acrylic signs have been made as early as the 1920's)You cann't tell by the photo's ,but it is embossed.Cocacolakid97 you said yourself that the script style dates to the 50's.The graphics are in good quality for something made in the late 40's -early 50's. If it was a fake fantasy piece it would have been mass produced and there would be more around. If either of you gentlemen could see it in person, you could make a better assessment. Thank you for your opinions, even if I do disagree with you.
Yeah, just leave him alone.
I just want to throw this out there, but, acrylic signs WERE NOT made in the 20's. It says on this exact page on a website http://www.articlesbase.com/business-articles/history-of-the-acrylic-sheet-the-history-of-plastic-product-manufacturing-313666.html that acrylic resins wern't introduced until 1931, besides the fact, it says nothing on it being used as a sign, a sign holder, but not a sign. Your piece id accrylic coated, which is common on reproduction and fantasy items. where are you getting your info? I'm sorry, cannot let this go until he reilizes THIS IS A FAKE!!!
I just give up, say whatever you want to say, but this is a fake.
I worked in the the printing busness for 10 years , I know embossed. It is embossed. Like I said in my last post if you could see it in person you could make a better assessment.I think you're jumping the gun on the "fake" and "fantasy" opinion.Still trying to figure out what you mean by a fantasy item. Not copyrighted by coke? Produced to look older than it is? I guess anything is possible. At the time of my original I had no clue as to details. Like I said before, if it is a fantasy item it would have been mass produced.Ray,you have a impressive collection and if you havn't run across one in all your years of collecting speaks on behalf on it rarity. So the mystery is still there.
NEXT!
I need more people to say this for me!
I'm going nuts!!! Some items were not mass produced, I have seen many off these before at antique places selling them AS FANTASY ITEMS. Fantasy means someone made it up, and made it to look old, and real, and usually sell them as the real deal. Probably not licienced by coca cola. Usually, GENUINE foriegn items are made from american stuff just in different languages. In this case, IF IT WERE REAL, there is a high possiblity of this being an american sign first. again, i have seen this before in many places. and it's fake. I've seen this before in the oringinal cellophane before!
This is not going to stop until I tell what you want to hear. Its a fake, a fantasy, not real. Happy now? You can have the last word.
I just give up, say whatever you want to say, but this is a fake.
