I have no idea how old this lamp is. Its about 2' high. I have had it for about 6 years. It belonged to my uncle who received it from his parents so I assume its at least 60 years old. I have no idea of the maker. I could not find any identifying marks or name on the piece. Everyone asks me about it but I cant give them any information because I just dont know. Any ideas on who and when it was made?
Looks like Salem Lamp Co. Check underneath the base. If there's a felt bottom, any marks are possibly underneath the felt and stamped into the metal.
thank you for the info. Do you have any idea how old it is?
1910-1930 is a safe range on production.
I would love to clean it but I was told that takes away from the value-is that true? Do you have any idea of the value?
DO NOT CLEAN THE SURFACES. Only use water and a soft cloth. The surfaces look fine and are original. You will kill any collector/antique value (which isn't that great anyway ~$200-400) if you polish it up. It would be fine, however, to have it rewired, but just ask if it is possible to keep the original socket covers and light pulls. You want to keep it as original as it possible, while still being electrically safe.
