    Hi!

I have a before and after of a dresser I restored (only used Fromby's and some tung oil). It is solid wood, although I'm not sure what kind. You can see the grain better in the "after." I also redid the mirror, but do not have the glass replaced yet. It has a wavy front and I believe it could be oak. The hardware is original and the missing original escutcheon (not shown at time of after picture) was found and replaced, believe it or not. :)

If you can date this dresser or tell me anything at all about it, I'd appreciate it.

    Thank you!

That's the kind of beautiful wood I like to work with. Looking into beautiful wood like that is therapy. My guess is that style goes back to 1900, give or take 30 yrs.

I agree about it being therapy! I couldn't believe what was under all of the varnish. Thank you for your comment! :)

I'm dating it by the mirror frame & support but, to be honest, not my favourite style. If that wood is not veneer, you found a great piece. Veneers are a pain to restore because if you hardly touch it with any grade sand-paper, it goes thru. I have always avoided them.

Definitely not veneer, thank goodness.... and I know what you mean. Luckily it is all solid. The mirror creeps my husband out, so we just use the dresser. Haha! The mirror part is full of sand, I suppose from the mirror deteriorating.

For some reason, I just developed a mental block on liking that sort of mirror support & consider it gaudy. Just personal taste, but your hubby feels the same so I'm not alone. Now I'm curious as to how many others dislike that style? Maybe a support group is needed.

      Haha! Maybe so!
