I purchased a few items at an estate and the rug was thrown in for free.
It is made of silk. Measures 4' x 5'.
I think it was purchased or given as a gift in 1962 in Egypt

I am wondering if it is a rug or a shawl for a woman ? You say it is made of silk so thinking it was maybe something you wear over head or just wrapped across shoulders ? Very pretty !

I was told it is a prayer rug.

Great looking silk rug-- looks to be made in Iran (as most are).

The size would make it a larger prayer rug. While these can actually be used as rugs, many collectors hang them as decorator pieces.

Thank Scott :-) I see now it is a prayer rug they also had prayer shawls but this one has a fringe I missed . I think of these as being made any place in Middle East .
