I will continue with more of Bertil Vallien. Windpipes included in Artist Collection, created in the 1970s. There are a few different models and I think these are from the latest creations in the series. There are other models with slightly different looks.
The tall vase: 44 cm/17 1/4 inch. The low vase: 18 cm /7 inch.
The last picture shows Bertil Vallien when I met him in Åfors, 24 april 2010. Last year 2012, New Wave Group closed down the Åfors factory for good. Bertil and Ulrica Hydman-Vallien must now produce all their art glass in Kosta, the last remaining unit for Orrefors-Kosta/Boda Group. Even Ludvig Löfgren and Åsa Jungnelius produced most of their art glass in Åfors. Today, Ludvig Löfgren left Orrefors-Kosta/Boda for Målerås glassworks, owned by Mats Jonasson. In contrast to Orrefors-Kosta/Boda, Målerås increased their sales of glass by 8% last year and they see a bright future for their hand-made art glass. They have no plans to outsource any of their glass production, but see great value in protecting the manual glass tradition in Sweden.
Hi rebessin I met Ludvig Löfgren here in Sydney in 2011 and he told me of the plight of glass in Sweden. Thanks for the update. Did Åsa Jungnelius go to Målerås too? Love that tall vase!
Thanks "PDAM", vetraio, bellin and lovers! No vetraio, Åsa Jungnelius still "belongs" to Orrefors/Kosta-Boda what I know today.
I have the taller one, with the yellow body and purple sprout. It's a beautiful piece, which I treasure. My mother has another of Vallien's bottles, from a different series, but contemporary with these. They're very appealing :)
