Measures approximately 2Ft 4 Long and 1Ft 5 from top-to-bottom, and a little less than 1Ft 4 front-to-back. I can't find any markings on it that would give information about the trunk. I'd love to hear any information about this trunk if you have knowledge about it.

I purchased this at a yard sale today and I have spent the past 2 hours trying to find information online about the trunk. In my search, I only found 2 trunks that look even close to what I picked up today. I was driving by and saw it from the street. I didn't know it was an antique, I just always liked trunks and especially older looking trunks. When I stopped, the people selling it said it was from the 1800s. I noticed it was much more sturdier than any vintage looking trunks that they make now-a-days, so I just had to have it. It was more than I was planning to spend when I was driving by; but once he told me it was from the 1800s, I knew it was worth more than what he was selling it for ($65). The value age and durability of the trunk is well worth the price. I love it and I am wondering if it has been altered in any way. Everything on the trunk looks old except I am skeptical about the black paint. It doesn't look new or anything, it just seems odd.

This trunk is a lovely example of a dome top trunk with alligator tin pattern. Most likely an early 1900's trunk -- as in the mid to late 1800's they used some cast iron pieces for hardware -- this piece has stamped metal. It is hard to comment on the black paint from the pictures -- originally the tin on the sides would have been painted black -- maybe someone touched it up years later. This was a standard type of trunk with many makers so you will be hard pressed to find out who made it. Good trunk at a good price -- enjoy!!

Wow, that is a beauty. I wish to see something like that when I am driving by the yard sale. I believe someone on this site has called that the dogwood pattern on the slat clamps.

Wow I ha e the exact same trunk. Or at least very similar. I found it in an old house and its full of vintage clothing. I wish I new more about it to tell you. My guess is early 1900's . I have it for sale in our antique store in charlotte nc. I would love to know more about it if anyone knows .
