I got these two oak fireplace surrounds at a garage sale on the northwest side of Chicago. There was a 40/50 family garage sale happening and this was the coolest item I found. They're pretty rough, and I believe they are fireplace surrounds. They're definitely some kind of architectural object, because they have plaster on the back and nails sticking out of the top and bottom. The guy I bought them from cleaned one of them, ugh! Why do people think cleaning something is a good idea? Just leave it in it's original condition! Anyway, he didn't do too much damage it's just one looks a different color than the other, but they're identical design-wise. They're really heavy, I and think they're hand carved, there's no way a machine could have made those notches and grooves in the wood. They caught my eye because they're just so beautiful, I think. What do you guys think? Any information is always greatly appreciated! Thanks y'all.
