This is a sweet pair of sterling silver jewel boxes, hallmarked Birmingham 1859 and made by Henry Manton. They have lovely floral engraving on the tops that look almost art deco - I was surprised to learn that they are as old as their hallmarks prove. They are a matched pair. One is 3.5" diameter and the other is 2.75". They both have the original navy velvet in the bottom, but the sides of the smaller one have been replaced with purple silk and a lining for the cover of the big one has the same material, which I do not think is original - I think they were both only lined in the bottom originally. They are beautiful little boxes.
