Urchin Basket by Jeremy Frey, Passamaquoddy Native American.

I just got this recently. It is a small Urchin Basket made by Jeremy Frey, just for me. It is made of Ash Tree bark and Sweet Grass, 4 inches in diameter and 3 1/2 inches in height. He used colors that I asked for: Natural, Green and Purple and it came out just beautiful. And the sweet grass smells just wonderful!

The splints Jeremy used to weave around the basket are the smallest, 1/32 of an inch wide. He prepares all the work himself, from finding the Ash tree and cutting it down all the way to the finished work. He started weaving in 2002 and already he is a celebrated artist. I now have two of his baskets in my collection, and I hope to get more in the future if I can still afford to. I can't wait to see how he evolves in his artistry, already he is moving into incorporating old and new styles together and they are truly amazing.
