Yet another of the Maude Lankester PC collection that I am working through on CW. The black and white photo is a different shot taken from a high point above the port of Stanley. The high point must be a mountain on a peninsula called The Nut an old volcanic plug discovered by the explorers Bass and Flinders in 1798, who named it Circular Head. It has steep sides and rises to 143 metres with a flat top. It is possible to walk to the top of The Nut via a steep track or via a chairlift.
Tracking Maude's movements using these cards I've seen that she was in Tasmania on board a cruise ship. The ship would have been the S.S. Sydney that did "Ocean Excursion Trips" in "1st and 2nd class saloon passengers only". A round trip was ten days that left Sydney sailing to Melbourne, Stanley, Burnie, Devonport, Eden and returning to Sydney.
An advertisement of Tuesday 7 December 1915 in The Argus reads:
OCEAN EXCURSIONS. (Circumstances Permitting.) TASMANIA,-EDEN.-SYDNEY. (1350 Miles at Sea.) The Popular S.S. "SYDNEY," 8000 Tons, Captain J. DAWSON. WEDNESDAY, 15th DECEMBER, At 2 p.m., And Fortnightly Thereafter, From No. 7 SHED, Calling at STANLEY, BURNIE, DEVONPORT, EDEN, and SYDNEY. Round Trip occupies ten, days, allowing passengers four days in Sydney. ROUND FARES:- SALOON, £6/6/; Second Saloon, £4. Fares include maintenance on board at all ports except Sydney. For further particulars, pamphlets &c., apply MELBOURNE STEAMSHIP CO. LTD., 27-31 King Street.
I think this would be the trip taken by Maude given the details on the card.
Weather conditions in Bass Strait between Melbourne and Stanley can very unpredictable.
On this occasion it must have been a very rough trip:

Had a rough passage over from Melbourne nearly all the passengers were ill. Hope to be in Sydney by Sunday. One lady in my cabin lost her teeth overboard while ill so does not feel too happy. Hope all the chick(?) & manoia are alright. Love to all M. Lanketser "

Jumping on a plane is boring travel. I like jumping on island cargo boats. A pizza or case of beer(cheap here) is the usual fare & that is just a friendly gesture. Lot more interesting company than the fat American sitting next to you on a flight. They don't serve stale peanuts but you aren't limited to the size of your bags or subject to cavity searches. Slept a few times on life-vests on top of a wheel house.You forget that flight in days, but traveling "tramp" gives good memories for the rest of your life & lasting friends. People have just forgotten how to get the best out of life. Haven't done this in some years, so guess I'll go down to the docks & stick my thumb out soon.

I'm tired of people who throw in double vowels for no reason. Maybe Guadeloupe, - ah, Bequia, Petite "Gonad", or maybe Mustique.
A few years ago while working in Hobart I took a bus tour around the island of Tasmania. The scenery was magnificent and the stops interesting and included Stanley and the Nut. The food and accomodations were top notch. Regretably, this is not the way to travel either - there was no one on the bus that was under 80 and the tour was run by a sargeant-major type tour director who had little patience for my tendency to break off from the group and see our sites on foot :0
Yeah, antiquarius, I'm the same way. There are 3 doors & they tell you to go thru door #1. I want to know what's behind door # 3 & maybe #2. I got picked up in Miami once for going thru #3. Luckily, I have an FAA inspectors lic. but they still didn't like it! By the way, there was nothing of interest behind #3.LOL. They want everybody to be like sheep but I never liked being one.

Getting out of the "comfort zone" is the best part of travel for me.
As regards redundant a's .... copy and paste is easy.
And then going back to delete a letter is more than not so easy, it's unnecessary.
This way I avoid the tag of 'bad speller'.
Just lazy am I!
What is "copy and paste". I'm not an ole-timer at this & only know parts of how to do that & get variable out-comes. Don't bother to explain. Others have with nominal success. Ignorance can be bliss, but not here.
You get the mouse and move the cursor move back over the word or words you want to copy. It can be a whole paragraph, a page, whatever, ....
The defined text will be highlighted in a blue box.
If you use Word then press Control and the letter 'c' at the same time.
That copies the defined text and keeps it in memory.
Go to place where you want to paste it ......
and then press Control and 'v' for paste.
It will appear there for you.

You have the idea vetraio50. We "steal" parts here & hope to replace them before they knew they were stolen. When caught re-installing, we tell the owner/pilot that we noticed the the "part" was not working & we were just "helping them". Of course everybody knows the score & works well as long as long as the other plane doesn't have to fly before ours. Then we just steal a part from another aircraft or return what we "borrowed". The system works! "Hey, I'm flying tomorrow & need my beacon light back". "OK, what time are you leaving?".
Sounds like cut and paste spare parts at the airport.
By jove, I think you have it! Hey, it takes a day or two to have parts flown in so nobody is really bothered. I charge by the hr. so I just make more $.

Great revelation vetraio on the cut & paste. It was the Control + V that I needed to know about. My life has been transformed thanks to you. To be honest though, that happens several times a day but at least this time was for the better!

Not sure I'm ready for "short cuts" as they have often proven to be trouble. I'll look at it later but have had a h-ll of a wk keeping them thar flying machines going & want a day off without thinking. I envy West Indians as they can sit on a wall for endless hours & obviously "kick" their minds into neutral. Without even a book!! Their butts don't even seem to hurt on a concrete block wall! There is an unwritten law here, that for every 1 person working, there has to be a minimum of 3 people watching. I'll star this & see what kind of trouble you are getting me into demain.
