Behold, the first Gooseneck mounted Explosion Proof Enamel!
Anyone who has held an explosion proof porcelain enamel shade knows how heavy they are. Too heavy for a standard mount. I custom bent the gooseneck, then fashioned a support bracket to support the gooseneck. Shown hanging off my back porch.
Made by Crouse-Hinds from about the '40's, this one features a nice large 16" green enamel shade, very large/ very thick glass globe, and large head hardware. Absolutely, bad to the bone.
For you uninitiated to the world of vintage explosion proof lighting, this is about as cool in Industrial Lighting as it gets. The fixture really is explosion proof. Designed specifically for hazardous environments , such as munitions, fuel, and chemical plants. The thick glass globe and head hardware isolated the light bulb and electrical connections from the outside environment. Made by vintage manufactures like Crouse-Hinds, Appleton, Benjamin, and Wheeler.
now i see more clearly the piece that i'm missing for mine. let me know if you ever see that piece alone and i'll put them together.
nice job!!!!!
That is a cool looking light, and I see where it could be handy getting to the outdoor facilities at night. :) That globe is just awesome.
I think Crouse-Hinds and Appleton still make industrial lighting including the explosion proof type. I always hated packing and sealing the explosion proof fittings in the conduit entering these things.
