Over the past couple years, a close friend and well-known collector has been slowly selling off his collection of cameras, lenses, and images. He recently surprised me with a gift of some of his favorite images. His eye for older photography amazes me.
This is an absolutely gorgeous image in real life technically (tonality, etc.), compositionally, and emotionally. It is a 4 x 5.5 inch image with the name Celine written on the back. She is in a stylish, somewhat uniform-like dress. Or perhaps it is a uniform dress? The heavy stock card is embossed "Preble, Waterville, Me." on the front.
My friend found this image many, many years ago and commented;
"Odd, but I fell for her the instant I picked up her card in Wichita, Kansas, of all places. One of my favorite photographs."
