This scouting pocket watch was made by Ingersoll with a movement number : 86676289 which dates it circa 1936/1937.
The watch hands (in the shape of wooden directional signs) are made of brown 'plastic' with the scouting motto 'BE PREPARED' printed on the hour hand and 'A SCOUT IS' printed on the minute hand. Hence, as the minute hand rotates, the tip of the minute hand will be pointing to twelve different disciplines (written around the perimeter of the dial), over the course of 60 minutes, representing :-
'A SCOUT IS' -
1. Trustworthy - between 12/1
2. Loyal - between 1/2
3. Helpful - between 2/3
4. Friendly - between 3/4
5. Courteous - between 4/5
6. Kind - between 5/6
7. Obedient - between 6/7
8. Cheerful - between 7/8
9. Thrifty - between 8/9
10. Brave - between 9/10
11. Clean - between 10/11
12. Reverent - between 11/12
The center of the dial depicts an open field with a camp surrounded by plenty of trees. The seconds disc is in the shape of 'fleur-de-lis' (Lily Flower) which is the typical logo of Scouting Organizations. 'Be Prepared' is again written underneath this stylized lily logo.
