Bought this beautiful Vase a few weeks ago and love it!!!
It has Josef Hoffmann signature plus WW (Wiener Werkstätte). But I was told that this is not the common hoffmann signature :-(
Anyone who has seen this signature before? the crystal is Ludwig Moser Karlsbad!
    32 cm high

Do you think the signature was faked?
    2. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 11 years ago
      the WW also looks wrong
    3. claudia1971 claudia1971, 11 years ago
I personally don't think it is a fake. Moser Karlsbad confirmed me that the vase is from 1920 made by them. I think maybe this was a special edition and those days the possibilities to keep fotos or sketches of every single product in an archive were less. I still believe that almost 100 years later we still find rare pieces which can show us that not everything was fabricated as mass model and production had more flexibility. Need an expert on this one and more access to diferent archives!!!

Yeah it definitely looks like a Moser piece, but I've never seen that signature before. It doesn't look choppy though, its looks pretty good.
    5. claudia1971 claudia1971, 11 years ago
anyone who knows about an online archive for signatures?

and may I ask where you have seen them Sean? any fotos? would be a great help because i contacted different places in Vienna and they tell me they don't know this kind of signature (and they should know...). :-(

@Sean I looked up similar pics in some of the pages - most of them are not marked, which leads me again to the question why the Hoffmann and WW mark on my one looks so different. Ludwig Moser Karlsbad confirmed that the crystal was made by them, bu, I don't know anything about the mark this one has on it.

I rather have one that is signed and they confirmed it ,Than one that wasn't signed. the mark is fine , things change after a while, markers marks always change.
    23. claudia1971 claudia1971, 11 years ago
@Sean, thats exactly what I am thinking also! BUT as in Vienna they don't find pictures of this one in the archives they doubt that it is Hoffmann and WW. Moser Karlsbad didn't tell me anything about the mark.

Claudia, who did you email in Vienna about the archives? Thanks, Keith
    25. claudia1971 claudia1971, 10 years ago
Asia, I asked at different places - the dorotheum, Kinsky, Christies and varous other places....
    26. Asia1 Asia1, 10 years ago
I have a similar, but different unmarked vase. I don't know how to load an image to a thread...

Asia1! If your photos are on a SD/Mini disk (taken out of camera), simply insert it in your computer SD port and when you click on "Add Photo" on the post an item page, the disk will open to reveal your photos or will be in one of the disk drives. Simply click on the photos you want to upload and click on "add" on the bottom. You can choose up to 4 photos. RER(BOB)

I know how to add a photo when starting a new thread, but there is no "Add Photo" to the reply section that I can see...
    29. Asia1 Asia1, 10 years ago
Moser replied that my vase was not one of theirs, odd, it is so similar to your piece...

Paris1925, I bought it at an auction abroad - it is in Vienna that the people who looked it up in the archieves didn't find a similiar marking of Hoffmann.... Moser Karlsbad confirmed that the pokal is from them around 1922. That's at least something :-)

Here is a similar piece to mine on Ancient Point with gold decoration described by the owner as Moser... http://ancientpoint.com/inf/113279-moser_art_deco_amethyst_neoclassical_design_14k_gold_gild_faceted_art_glass.html

Paris, can you copy the picture? when I open the link I don't see the one you mentioned
    34. claudia1971 claudia1971, 10 years ago
I see the foto of the 2 glasses with the WW mark, are you refering to these ones, Paris1925?
    35. claudia1971 claudia1971, 10 years ago
OK, I have seen it!! But it doesn't have the Hoffmann mark :-(
    36. claudia1971 claudia1971, 10 years ago
Paris, can you tell me which was the keyword you put for the search at the MAK? the link doesn't open the pics you are referring to
