I found this bottle in an old barn. It is a one gallon Duraglas bottle , aqua in color DES Pat 184991. The markings on the bottom are 15 60 and the number 2. I would like to know what this bottle was used for and what the approx. age of it is. Can anyone give me any info ?

I'm no expert, but it looks like its from the 60s, and could have been used for Coca-cola flavoring syrup to be used for fountain soda machines. There would've been a green label on it. Looks clean, usually there'd be rotten syrup in it on the bottom.

Thanks. Do you know what the value may be ? We don't want to sell it, but would like to know if it has any value.
    3. James, 14 years ago
Ones I've seen have had labels on them, and sold for about $25. I'm not sure how much value the label would actually add to the bottle, but I would think a decent amount. hope that helps!

i've seen similar ones on ebay $5-$10.

Thanks. We will keep it, just thought it was nice color and wanted it to sit in my kitchen.

Yeah, I love old bottles and jugs like this. I make lamps out of them.

I don't think this is a Duranglas bottle. Does it have the name embossed on it, and also it should have at the bottom a number to the left to represent the factory and according when manufactured a symbol in the middle a diamond with an O in the middle and another number on the other side of the symbol which represent the year a single or double digit.
    8. love bottles, 14 years ago
The symbol can also be a circle with an I in the middle on the bottom. This would indicate it is from the 1950's or later. the dimond would be earlier.

I just cleaned a jug that i found in our barn like this. it is 1 gallon green looking with Duraglas embossed on it and 15-1-58 2 on the bottom. Anyone have any info on this?

I also have a 1/2 gal. that is Duraglas. Yr. 1948 with the diamond and O. It also has green tint. And I cannot find any anywhere, even on eBay. Looking for any kind of value? Can somebody help me. Thank you.

I have a brown one gallon jug with the same des pat 194991 and the label on the jug is for Baglin-a general purpose liniment for vetinary use from the Syracuse Pharmacal Co., Inc. There is alittle in the jar and that is tryly what was inside the jug.
    12. Seejay, 14 years ago
Your jug was patented in April 28, 1959 (but probably in use since 1957). But if the "60" on the base is to the right of an I inside a tall oval outline "(I)"...that would mean it was made in 1960 (prior to 1954, the company used an overlapping diamond & oval logo, with the I inside). Such jugs could have been used for beverages or cleaning products (like Clorox).
Is there any other code on the base? Owens-Illinois Glass Co. usually included a product code besides the factory location and date of manufacture. Duraglas is their glass hardening process. Do a search online, and open the Glass Glossary link.

I was out riding and found a half gallon duraglas bottle, clear and the marking on the bottom are 0 an I in the middle inside a circle with o on the other side and a 2 at the bottom, it has seam on both sides and it a large mouth. I just like the looks of it and wanted to see if anyone could tell me anything. I know nothing about bottles.

I can't answer your question, but I have a 1/2 gallon jar with a 4 1/2 inch wide mouth that has Duraglos stamped into the glass. It has a metal lid.

I have a gallon small mouth duraglas jar that has the wire around the mouth of the jar-do you know what it was used for. Also on the bottom has a 2 (1) 9 and another 9 below those no's. and the one is inside a circle.
      Thanks

I found five of the clear Duraglas 1 gallons in an old Tobacco Barn next to a large metal barrel with copper lines coming out of it. I asked the locals and was told they were probably used for moonshine back in the day. I had to laugh

We found a one-gallon Duraglas jug which is clear in color. The words "one-gallon" are embossed in two spots around the top of the jug and the name Duraglas is embossed in two locations near the bottom of the jug. The numbers and symbol on the bottom of the jug look like this:
      23 <(I)> 53
      58

      I637 - W
Could someone please explain these numbers and their meaning? Also, the jug is filled with what appears to be some kind of spoiled syrupy-like liquid. A metal screw-on cap is rusted on atop the jug. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have 3 Duraglas jugs, with the name embossed on the bottom. It has a I in a circle with a diamond through it and the number 7 to the left, a number 2 at the bottom and the number 54 to the right of it. These jars are on an old electric machine that swings back and forth when it is plugged in. If anyone has a clue the worth of the jars, the meaning behind the numbers and possibly what the machine was used for that would be greatly appreciated.

I know it's an older post but they are called "diamond I" good for everything bottles. They were really heavy sellers in the 20's as corked tops and continued to keep up with the times. Owens sold them empty by the case. There is a great article on them on sha.org maybe sha.com with a copy of the Owens 1926 catalog under glass jugs.

I found a one gallon glass jug with handle, and metal screw on cap with 7up on it, bottle of jug has 7 1(in oval ) 5, it has des.pat 184991 on neck... can anyone tell me anything about this jug?

    22. harbin36, 7 years ago
I have found a old clear jug like the one at the top of this post. Has the des pat 184991 on it and then has on the bottom on the edge E2370 on the very bottom of the jug it has the O with the I inside it and on the left numbers 10, 8 on the right and underneath the O the number 4. The jug is also clear. I am just wondering what year period. What I could research myself on it I take the jug was used for food and the 10 stands for the plant it was manufactured which might have been Newwark,OH. I am just wanting to see if this is correct and a year for the jug. Thanks for any help
