Purchased this at an auction about 7 years ago. The back tilts East/West so that you can sit facing East in the morning and watch the sunrise then flip the back so that you sit facing West in the evening to watch sunset! I had to have it... never seen anything like it before - so she went home with me. It has iron hangers so you can hang from a chain - so I assume it was made for a dedicated stand or the porch. I have no idea the period or the age, but it is def handmade in some master woodworkers shop. Lots of great detailing! The tiles appear old and original - they are marked India (Wanker or similar - forgot to write it down!) - so maybe they also give a period for the piece. The wood is also a mystery - so if you anyone can shed some light on her... that would be great!

you are very lucky indeed!!!!! Is that a mirror??? To me it looks very old, do you think the "hangers" were added at a later time?

shares some features with my antique chinese chairs. To me this is is Chinese, of course I cannot see the whole piece in person. I would say this is chinese possibly 100-200 years old???? what does the bottom look like???

I am having some woodworkers comment on it at a forum to garner the wood type and period.

hey bamadawg63. I can say that it looks like the wood was exposed to the elements. Most likely an outdoor bench or swing like you said. As far as the type of wood. Let me consult a book I have. It is packed away but I will dig it up.

I am a little sketchy about the legs? Could the legs be a marriage? Whatever the case a really fine piece, I will stop bogging you down with comments. Take care!!
