This medallion is made of brass, quite heavy. It measures 7 cm in diameter. The fabric in the case is a little worn however everything else is intact. The details on both sides of this medallion are amazing. I wish I knew more about the history of this piece.
Translation: "Strausburg Industry and Trade Exhibition"
Probably given to all of the folks who exhibited or contributed significantly to the show in 1895.
Scott is right on the money. It is a medal of merit. Based on the looks of the scan it is bronze and in the original presentation case. The market for medals is much stronger in Europe than here in the states so if you ever want to sell it I would advise consigning it to a dealer with a strong European and or medal collecting buyer list.
