    This cute toy is metal and painted. When wound with the key shown it travels forward about a foot and a half chasing the rolling ball. Then the tail action rolls it over, it rights itself and keeps on going. Delightful. Any idea of the age or similar toys? Thanks for the look.

      He appears to made in Japan , with a celluliod head and tail ,body tin . Does ball say Japan on it ? I have seen him many times . Dates from most likely 1950's . Very cute !

      Thanks for the info, Manikin. And, yes, you nailed it. Japan written right on the ball. I had not seen that before. You know, it would be from the era of my childhood and, very surprising, it looks like an antique to me. Ahhh.
