Well I wanted something monumental for my 200th post but this is all I came home with today. Still it's an interesting piece from the SA thrift store. An 8" vase in solid black glass. The main portion is a mirror shiny iridescent black with bands of satin finish towards the top. The rim is just flat like it was cut. The bottom has no marks of any kind and the finish does show a circular pattern to it. I get the feeling that it was blown into a mold to shape it but I don't know how they created the satin parts. Probably some kind of acid etching. Like I said it's interesting. Didn't see anything online to compare it to so I don't know if it's old or new. -Mike-
NOTE : Just discovered that this is a piece of "Cambridge" glass while researching another piece. It would have had a paper label on the bottom at one time. -Mike-
beautiful!!!
Congrats on 200th posting!!!! Love it!!!
congrats on your 200th posting:)
Thank you everyone ! :)
Been looking around online. Seems black glass is called amethyst glass. I forgot about Cambridge, Steuben and Tiffin. Throw in Murano for good measure. I'm not good with glass it's harder to ID than art pottery. All I know is it does appear to be hand made and not ordinary.
