Hello CW! Thanks again for all the help on my Purina sign. Had so much fun I decided to see if you guys or gals can provide any information on this item. I have seen many lollipop sign bases over the years such as Firestone, Gargoyle, and many others. I cannot find any info on anything Standard Oil (Chicago). Has a stamp on the back that reads 2128-op. It is 17" in diameter and weighs 20 pounds. It has a rougher than normal sand cast look to it as you can see. Alot of the original paint remains under all that overspray. Would love to find one of these in a old picture to see what the original sign may have looked like. This is one of the items my father says we have had since he was a child and he was born in 1935 :). Thanks once again for your advise and comments.
Can't help you on this one ,but if you collect signs ,they are good to have around!
On second thought...this seems a little small, and light, compared to the ones I have.???!!!
Thanks gargoyle! Yah this has stumped everybody I show it to, and yes it is lighter than the typical lollipop base. Some mysteries are meant to stay mysteries I guess :). Thanks for the info
I worked in a Sohio station in the late sixties and we had one about that size that stood just inside the front door to advertise sales. It had a metal rectangular loop at the top that posters dropped into.
I don't remember it saying Chicago though, but we were in Ohio.
Thanks Az Tom, I feel like I am getting warmer to solving the questions I have about my base, thanks a bunch!
