    (765 items)

This is a pair of Chinese Jade bowls I remember seeing in Hong Kong in the Antique Shops....I got these at SA for $1.99 for both. The smaller one was restored at some point. The bigger one is a good size (2.5 x 5.0 w) and in near mint condition.... I put mineral oil on them to restore a little of dryness they had after cleaning then in just water.....
    Another set similar to them:

Eye, I have no idea....maybe the wealthy ate in them...to show off there status.

Eye, the smaller bowl was lovingly restored. So I think that whom ever had them restored knew there worth...at some point. These are really nice bowls!

Eye, I am not sure...but maybe 1925? They are very well made. I am sure someone on CW will give a gestimate......but hopefully in a nice way. Not comparing these to Ming Dynasty and beyond. But they are nice! For $1.99 for both is not bad!

Great deal for $2 Lee, I never find anything good on the shelves of my Goodwill, although I found some pretty good stuff in their dumpster. They have no idea what they are doing.

MattyG, when I saw the bowls...I was dying!!!! I could not believe it! I think a Chinese family member passed away...because I picked up a gorgeous Chinese Carved Fisherman ...the carving is lovely. No tall but beautifully carved...the detailing is very nice!

I will be cautious in comparing like-for-like whether it is value or similarities to eBay's "antiques". Chinese style probably but far from Chinese Spinach Nephrite. Most of them are simply modern replicas and eBay's prices are not indicative - often just what people blindly ask for and even if there are bids, it may not have been transacted eventually. This could be late 20th century and yes vintage decorative piece.

The black and white/grey streaks reveal distinct differences to the quality Chinese Spinach nephrite often associated with much greater value. In fact, quantity is so scarce that Russian spinach nephrite (finer quality do fetch a fair bit of $ as well) and other dubious green stones are being used to pass off as Chinese Spinach Jade. The thickness and rigid "curves" of the rim to the centre of the bowl indicate that it is likely a decorative bowl about right for $1.99. Again, I will post images of what I mean by quality Chinese Spinach Nephrite.

davezquanw, the difference between you and most CW members is that...yes we do want to learn and are open to learning. But no where in the posting does it say Nephrite Jade nor Top Quality. The post was simply finding a cool piece at SA and sharing the love of collecting! I am in the jewelry business...and deal with Diamonds and high end pieces. But when someone wants to share a posting with friends....we all LOVE the others wonderful FINDS and not judge. That's the difference between you an me. We all can't be judges nor did I ask if I can see a 1000 year old Nephrite Jade bowl of yours. I deal with high end Antique Jewelry...and someone posts a nice Costume Jewelry...I don't post the real one to show the other up for lack of knowledge or opportunity. Thank you for being more tactful this time...but not once have you LOVED someone's post ...just because you like it and want to be a nice person. Try loving the posting and then leaving a comment.... Great post Lee, with a such large community of collectors like CW we get to see & learn so much. It doesn't have to be "Museum Quality" to get our attention & love.
Thanks for sharing the cool piece you found at SA and your love of collecting.

In response to you and Manikin's question on the deleted thread, I do not post my own collection because sharing of these images on the internet simply feeds forgers of modern reproductions, although they often make poor replicas as seen across CW. WEIBO is the equivalent of Facebook in China, not some book or magazine. Also, Singapore is not in China. Well, I do share my own stuff, recall the poor replica Chinese Archaic Jades shared months ago, which seems to be the norm around here.

I love the irony of wanting to learn and seeking advise only to remove comments when they do not like what they read, even if that's the truth. CW needs a reality check on asymmetrical information for collectors of Chinese Jade to say the least.
    24. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
davezquanw, LMAO we are not the only ones deleting your kind and gracious comments:) That is also at the discretion of the Head Honcho that developed this site :0 I would NEVER post items that did not belong to me....nor would anyone else on CW. We share and encourage each other with real pieces that we bought ourselves! And that WE OWN! What you are showing is a slight misrepresentation of yourself as the collector you are not. You collect magazines and books for reference only! We all could do that and one day be sued :0
    25. davezquanw davezquanw, 11 years ago
Real (as in physical) fake replicas to share and encourage false hopes - how is that wanting to learn? Seems like the people around here equate what you own to automatically being genuine or a bargain find from thrift stores and estate sales. Perhaps one needs to read more beyond his/her comfort zone and know what's going on out there. Dealers with hidden agenda tend not to do the same, but blindly and incoherently stand up for his/her item hoping that an offer may come in after sharing perhaps. At least for Chinese Jade, the genuine stuff will see the light when astute and educated (not necessarily doctors, tons of books showing fake Chinese Jade authored by so-called DR. XXX) collectors encounter each other. Whatever it is, I still enjoy my time at CW to keep up with poor replicas and fantasy stories - it just gets better and better. =)

davezquanw, what you say is correct! Your words are getting better and better...continue your ways ...its getting very interesting and enlightening! Do go on with your verbage! You are amusing us all!!

You are welcome. I took Higher Chinese in secondary school and junior college, so that I understand and being bilingual gives me an edge in researching this area.

Dave if it is truly your intention to teach others, but they are taking your comments as criticism. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to your cause to try a different teaching style.

Keep doing what you are doing Moonstone!
e-mail already sent to the big-cheese about dave causing problems on too many posts,he doesn't play well with others!
Dave ,you can help educate us here on the CW ,but your attitude doesn't seem to encourage learning.JMHO

gargoylecollector, thank you so much!!! That means a lot to me! I thought I was being harsh or maybe not receptive to learning. But when he disrespects others and myself...that's when I get a hair going.... :)) Thank you!!!!

No problem,we have had his type on here before, come and gone thankfully, it's too bad .CW is a peaceful site ,for the most part drama free, where we come to "show and tell"and learn something!
I read one of his other posts on here, telling the poster (not word for word)to find better answers elsewhere,THAT GOT ME IN A BUNCH!

It has been my experience in the art and antique business that "experts abound". I have had pieces sell internationally to museums after " an expert " said it was a fake or had no value. In fact , I have purchased pieces from "experts " after a declaration of unworthiness and sold them at high end auction houses. So I would say they have a place in the business. The truth is , trust the people that place their professional (Christie's,etc.) reputation on the line. I have come to realize that anything made by a human can be reproduced. I have been blessed to collect pieces that truly touched me. Isn't that the joy of this site? I have also come to the conclusion that for the creator of the piece ( the artist) it is an internal process or struggle and for us the "result"is the outward sign that graces our lives. Sort of like a sacrament.

Thoscahaba, Since living in Hong Kong and I was born in Japan, I have seen many fine Asian Antiques. Since my parents and grandparents were collectors and philanthropists. If you take a look at my postings you will see that on both sides of my family we are artists of some kind. Going back 4 generations. Even training horses from the ground up into International show Jumpers and Dressage is a sometimes gruesome and thankless experience. But it was my greatest joy! My second career is buying and selling antique jewelry. Even broken ones and recreating them for another 300 years of love. Thank your for your kind words.

How does one add a picture??
    42. kwqd kwqd, 4 years ago
Hi Mara1968. Welcome to CW. To post pictures you have to create a post.

Click on "Show & Tell" in the upper right corner of this screen. Which will take you to the main page for collectors.

Just below the upper right corner of that page is "Post and Item" next to the search box.

Left click on "Post and Item". This will take you to the page where you can create a new post.

      Complete the form:

      Fill out the title.

Add your pictures. You can do this in two ways. You can drag an imager file from someplace on your computer screen into the gray box, or you can just click on the gray box which will bring up your file manager and you can navigate to where your image files are stored. You can add one picture at a time this way, or you can hold down the "Ctl" key and select up to four images at one time.

Then fill out whatever you want to say about your item in the Description section.

You can also select a Category by starting to type something in that box related to your item and selecting something appropriate from the categories presented. Or you can just not select a category and CW will eventually select one for you.

You can also select something from the Mystery? drop down, if you want, or just ignore that.

      I hope this helps.
